Move over, Starbucks. There's a new crop of coffee shops in Downtown Redwood City with a focus on craft coffee. See below for our take on these new spots and the can't miss items to order.

Back Yard Coffee
965 Brewster Ave.
Est. 2008

Back Yard Coffee is a fine spot for hunkering down and working or lounging on one of their leather sofas and catching up with an old friend. They serve single origin Stumptown Coffee and Five Mountains Heirloom Organic Tea. Back Yard offers classic coffee shop ambiance and events like live music and an open-mic night. Here's the spin: they also have a rotating tap from various craft brewers on tap!

Can't Miss: Stumptown pour-over and a Cronut in the am. Or for something a little different, order a Shake Chocolate Porter nitro beer on tap in the evening while listening to live music.

Bliss Coffee
2400 Broadway St. #110
Est. 2014

Bliss Coffee, housed in a brick building on Broadway, offers coffee and eats from California. They have a rotating tap of craft coffee including Four Barrel, Verve, Temple, and Klatch. In addition, they serve up chocolate from TCHO and pastries from Starter Bakery, based in Oakland. The space is clean and modern with an abundance of natural light, offering a perfect place to jam on creative projects. Alternatively, they have picnic benches outside to enjoy your coffee with friends in the sunshine.

Can't Miss: In addition to pour-over coffee by the cup, Bliss offers three perfect lattes with flavors made in house. Whether you choose their vanilla bean, lavender, or decadent Nutella latte, you really can't go wrong.

Philz Coffee
2116 Broadway St.
Est. 2003, RWC Location opened 2015

Philz Coffee has a cult following in San Francisco, and now in Silicon Valley with locations spanning from Palo Alto, to Sunnyvale, to San Mateo. The Philz coffee experience is more like going wine tasting in Napa then ordering a cup of joe. Each cup of pour-over is handmade by your personal barista, ready to customize your craft coffee to your heart's content. The space is part of a historic building remodel of the old Sequoia Theater, which was built in 1917, and sat abandoned for the last 10 years. It is both industrial and lively with a polished concrete floor, pops of red, and wood accents—perfect for meeting a colleague to chat about your next collaboration.

Can't Miss: Philz Mint Mojito is the ultimate in iced coffee. Pair it with a Philz bagel with cream cheese, tomato, and cucumber.
